About the Program

NMMA’s relationship with our Community Partners is built on trust, confidence and mutual respect and results in a unique and a powerful voice directed at decision makers to bring resources to the North Metro Area that can ensure a bright and prosperous future.

Why You’re Important

NMMA member Cities rely on private and not-for-profit Community Partners to strengthen our collective voice and demonstrate to state government and local communities how united we remain in sustaining the North Metro Area as a fantastic place to live, work, be educated and raise a family. We all have read the newspapers and have witnessed the gridlock at the state capitol. We have encouraged our elected officials to become leaders in finding a balanced approach to meet the needs of the State of Minnesota, and it’s Community Partners like you that strengthen our collective voice, and demonstrate to our state and local communities how united we remain sustaining the North Metro Area as a fantastic place to live, work, be educated and raise a family. Commit to a Community Partnership with NMMA and help guide our future.

Partnership Accomplishments

Significant ways we’ve accomplished legislative objectives through partnership include:

  • Supporting passage of legislation to build Maple Grove Hospital

  • Keeping pressure on decision makers to fund construction of the last section of Highway 610 that will complete the metropolitan transportation system

  • Helping to clarify state law in terms of conditional uses in zoning codes

  • Working with area legislators to protect fiscal disparities legislation that was designed many years ago to bring tax base sharing dollars to the vast majority of our NMMA members

  • Convincing many of our legislators to support local control on city budget and related property tax issues by opposing “levy limits”

  • Supporting language to amend the tax bill so that TIF financed projects that mature can become part of the sponsoring cities’ tax base for future years

Leveraging Experience and Collaboration

Community Partners also receive the following benefits:

  • Enhanced visibility and strategic partnering with key city/county leadership

  • Access to current events, legislative updates, white papers and more via the NMMA website

  • Increased networking opportunities and collaboration on best public/private sector partnership practices

  • Improved knowledge, skills and abilities regarding critical legislative issues and advocacy

  • Significant product and service savings via public bid pricing offered through our North American Joint Purchasing Program (NAJPP)
